Description

NGC 6229 is a globular cluster located in the constellation Hercules, located at about 100 000 light years away from earth,  in the outer halo of our galaxy.

It is an intermediate-metallicity globular cluster with two distinct generations of stars, and may be the remnant core of a spheroidal dwarf galaxy.

NGC 6229 is the third of Hercules's globular star clusters, and is both smaller and fainter than M13 or M92, about 8 times fainter than M92, and 16 times fainter than M13.
